Facebook are at it again – yet another change… This time it’s for pages!
Starting right now, Facebook enables (selected) page owners to switch to the new look. All pages will revert to the new look on March 30!
The new look for pages is going to include a timeline and a cover image, much like profiles.
What got many people concerned are apps. What will happen to apps in the new look? Now we know the answer: apps are going to show up at the top of the page (right below the cover image and next to the profile image) as over-sized icons. When you click an app icon, the app canvas is going to show up, filling up the full width of the page (no ads? Just for now?).
apps canvas can now be 850px wide (instead of the old 520px).
Default view for visitors to the page will always be the timeline, however you can get the url of an app canvas and send people to that url instead of the page url.
Will the new look help businesses get the most out of their FB pages? Only time will tell…
If you want to see what does a new timeline page looks like – I have converted our very own page to the new look. Check it out here: https://www.facebook.com/StoryOfJesusOfNazareth
For now (?) there are no ads showing up but I find if hard to believe FB will leave it that way for long…
